I met up with a friend recently and they told me about a very tough week they\u2019d been having. Their furnace broke down in the middle of winter. A few days later, they were in a car accident. And before the week was over, the power went out. The circumstances were pretty overwhelming when brought together in such a short period of time. Not surprisingly, they could only ask: Why does this keep happening to me?<\/em><\/p>

What is Bad Luck?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

Bad luck is the feeling that negative events keep happening without a clear reason and that they\u2019re somehow connected or personal. The term \u201cbad luck\u201d is usually tied to how impactful events are and how they\u2019re remembered over time. Often, bad luck feels real because stress builds, attention narrows, and the mind starts expecting the next problem before it arrives.<\/p>

How the Feeling of Bad Luck Rises<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

It helps to think of attention like a camera lens. When someone feels stressed or locked onto a single outcome, that lens narrows. The mind stays focused on problems and stays alert for the next thing to go wrong. Positive events and circumstances can still be present, but they\u2019re easier to miss when attention is already tense.
